Sharon Stone’s Divorce Woes
Rumor has it that the divorce proceedings between Sharon Stone and estranged hubby Phil Bronstein are going to get ugly.
Sources close to the couple have said that a "financial war" is brewing between the once inseparable couple, saying Stone refuses to pay Bronstein "a penny of her fortune." The source goes on to say that Stone, who is trying to get her career back on track, was quoted in an interview that her marriage was strong, despite the fact that Phil could get a little "testy." Stone also said, "The only marriages that last are the ones you don’t leave. Make the commitment and stick to it."
Shortly thereafter, Bronstein filed for divorce citing the standard Hollywood "irreconcilable differences." That in itself is funny, since Stone had a turn as Ryan O’Neal’s conniving girlfriend in 84’s Irreconcilable Differences. Despite a joint statement by Stone and Bronstein that describes their break-up as "amicable" and "mutual," there is concern that the divorce will take a turn for the nasty over money matters. The couple met in 1997 while Stone was filming the sci-fi thriller Sphere, and were married on Valentine’s Day 1998 – her third marriage and his second. All seemed well and the couple adopted their son Roan in May 2001. The couple stated they would share custody of their three-year old son.
It seems Stone forgot the saying, "If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all" when she emceed a fundraiser for Project Angel Food earlier this month. The outspoken actress was auctioning off a Valentine’s Day package when she said, "Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this!" Stone then offered up a smooch to the highest bidder. A man and a woman paid $40,000 each for the privilege of kissing a celeb. After giving both a deep kiss, Stone said, "I didn’t get that kind of attention at home. Maybe that was the problem." The problem remains to be seen, but with both parties having well-known tempers, the media circus surrounding the divorce should be interesting.
