Country Singer McCready Busted

Country starlet Mindy McCready was arrested earlier this month and charged with prescription drug fraud.
McCready, 28, was arrested and charged with prescription drug fraud after authorities in Tennessee discovered she used a fake prescription to obtain popular painkiller OxyContin, also known as "hillbilly heroin." She is currently out on $10,000 bail. The singer was arrested at her Nashville home after police learned she purchased the OxyContin at a pharmacy on February 12.

It seems she has changed her tune since a 2001 posting on the fan site Mindy-McCready.com when she wrote, "As far as drugs are concerned, I have absolutely not even tried any drug but "smoking" since high school, and I have never even had a cigarette in my mouth." Well, if she has come this far in three years, we can only wonder what she’ll be doing in three more. Crack? Heroin? Cocaine?

McCready burst onto the country scene at the age of 18 and got lucky when she met producer-songwriter Norro Wilson, who introduced her demo tape to country producer David Malloy. Malloy helped McCready score a record deal and her debut album Ten Thousand Angels hit the charts in 1996 and went gold that year. She enjoyed early success, but by 2002 it was reported that her Capitol records release was so disappointing she was dropped by the label. That, coupled with her brief engagement to former Lois & Clark star Dean Cain, may be what led her astray. As always, the fan base is split. Some fans are very supportive of McCready while others have turned their backs. Hopefully, she follows in the footsteps of former OxyContin users Winona Ryder, Matthew Perry, and Jack and Kelly Osbourne and gets the help she needs.
Do you think there is a difference between a prescription drug addiction and a street drug addition?
Yes, street drugs (heroin, coke, ecstasy, etc) are worse
No, drugs are drugs and addictions are addictions
