Ainslie Set for Gold
Sailing: Ben Ainslie is on course for gold after his fourth victory in ten races.
Ben Ainslie's fantastic run of form on the water continued today as he won his fourth race in ten in the men's Finn class.
With just one race to go in the regatta he now stands 14 points clear of second-placed Spaniard Rafael Trujillo, who finished fourth after a poor race.
The 27-year-old's prospects of retaining the Olympic title he won in Sydney looked to have been shattered last Saturday after he was controversially disqualified from race two.
Since then, however, he has gritted his teeth and given a series of superb performances. He is now guaranteed at least a silver medal, but he has his sights firmly set on going one better.
"I've got one race to go with a nice cushion on the Spanish guy but it's not over yet," he said afterwards. "I still have to go out there, concentrate, focus and try to stay near him and if I'm within 14 places that should be enough."
"It was a good day today," he added. "I was a little bit tense going out because it was still very close overall and the wind was pretty light. It's always tricky when its like that. But I was delighted to nail home two really good races today."
Ainslie's hopes were further boosted by the inspirational success of the women in the Yngling class - and, in particular, Shirley Robertson's achievement of taking gold in two consecutive Games, which Ainslie is hoping to emulate.
"It's fantastic, I'm so pleased for them," he said. "Shirley getting two golds in two Olympics and in different boats as well is unbelievable. Hopefully it can spark on the rest of us to get some more medals and more good results."
