Golf: A very (Fred) Funky Tournament
It is so much fun to watch athletes play their sport when they are having fun. Read on if you want to recapture the smiles, laughs, and signs of amazement from Fred Funk's funky weekend.
Nowadays, athletes are arrogant, always in need of more money, and wanting everybody to know who they are and what they do.
Athletes also do not seem to have fun all the time while they are playing. There are usually some smiles, some signs of amazement, but, for the most part, athletes just go through the motions and get lots of fame and fortune.
In this past weekend, I have begun to think a little differently about ALL athletes. I paid some closer attention to the PGA Championship than I usually do to most golf tournaments, and I have enjoyed watching the Funkster in action.
Jim Nantz said it perfectly when he said, "(Funk) has enjoyed every moment of this weekend...with a pretty relaxing attitude."
There have been tons of fist pumps, smiles, sighs of relief, and just utter and complete happiness.
If there were more athletes in the world who paid less attention to themselves and more attention to having fun with the people around them, especially the fans, professional sports would be about as enjoyable as Fred Funk himself.
I now hope that Funk does as well as Tiger Woods does in every golf tournament, if not better. While I am a huge Woods fan, I wish that he was not so into his endorsements, and more into reaching out to the fans around the 18th hole bleachers.
