South African drivers are the most prone to road rage, according to an international survey of aggressive behaviour in motorists.
Sixty-two per cent of South Africans interviewed admitted using aggressive behaviour on the road, ranging from threatening gestures to physical assaults, and two-thirds reported being on the receiving end of roadside aggression in the past 12 months, according to the survey by Synovate, a market research company.
Albert McLean, who directed the poll, said the absence of an effective public transport system contributed to the problem.
Britain and Greece rated second and third. The other countries surveyed were Brazil, France, India, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan and the US.
