Why would any person need to reinvent himself so many times, you might ask? Maybe it is that he has had numerous identity crises. Maybe he just likes to reinvent himself every once in a while. Whatever the case, rapper Sean Combs has gone from Puffy to Diddy in a matter of years. Diddy will have his coming out party, if you will, at this years MTV Movie Awards on August 28.
The rapper turned "hip-hop impresario" fist hit the seen with the well-known moniker "Puff Daddy." One can only speculate as to where the "Puff" came from. Of course Puff Daddy was obviously too much for some people who began to refer to the rapper as "Puffy." He decided to change his name again as a "fresh start" after he was acquitted on gun charges in 2001. After that he was referred to as P. Diddy. Maybe it was just too much name for him.
As for the new change, Combs has recently stated that his nickname was starting to confuse even him. He stated that half his fans were chanting P. Diddy, while the other half (obviously the lazy half) were just chanting "Diddy." Combs recently said in an interview, "I even started to get confused myself - and when I'd call someone on the telephone it took me a long time to explain who I was. Too long. One word. Five letters. Period." Diddy. He said in an interview, "To be honest, the unveiling of Diddy, you gonna see that at the [Video Music Awards]. You gonna see that in the entrance. You gonna see that swagger. You gonna see how I'm gonna navigate you through the journey. I'm gonna play my position, my role. The artists are gonna play their role. We're gonna have an incredible, incredible party." Wonder how long it'll take him to trim down his name to just "Did."
