USA boys sweep Dominican Republic at NORCECA tournament

Jake Schkud scored a match-high 13 points to lead the United States to a 3-0 win over the Dominican Republic in the second night of action at the NORCECA Youth Boys' Continental Volleyball Championship in the Volleyball Pavilion at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center Thursday night in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Schkud (Santa Monica, Calif.), a 6-foot-5-inch middle blocker, had a match-high seven blocks to lead Team USA to a 25-19, 25-23, 27-25 win. As a team, the USA (1-1) held a 10-5 edge in blocks.

Middle blocker John Parfitt (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) added eight points for Team USA in the victory, while outside hitter Jacob Wiens (Clovis, Calif.) chipped in with seven points.

Huascar Nunez and Eduardo Concepcion each scored 11 points to lead the Dominican Republic (1-1).

In other round-robin action Thursday night, Puerto Rico improved to 2-0 in the tournament with a 25-21, 25-14, 25-20 win over Mexico (0-2).
