Henman Out With a Whimper

Tennis: Tim Henman crashed out of the first round in Athens at the hands of the Czech Republic's Jiri Novak.
Fourth-seeded Tim Henman crashed out of the first round of the Olympic tennis tournament, losing 6-3, 6-3 to Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic on a windy night in Athens.

"I didn't play great," Henman said. "There's aspects that I felt I could have done better, but certainly at times I wasn't allowed to play as well as I would like."

It was a disappointment for Henman, who also lost his opening singles match at the 2000 Sydney Games and was beaten in the second round at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Henman did win a doubles silver medal with Neil Broad at Atlanta.

"It's something that I'm mentally proud of, that I've won an Olympic medal, and I'm disappointed that I couldn't add to it at this event," he said.
