Tom Cruise: The 'Other Woman' is A Sweetheart
Being the first up to follow Nicole Kidman as the object of Tom Cruise's affection is a difficult task, but Penelope Cruz has done it gracefully.
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were one of the most covered romance-marriage-divorce stories in Hollywood history. The press ate them up, quite literally, whenever there was an opportunity. Now, after the divorce proceedings are all but finished, Tom has moved on to a new love. Given the turbulent breakup and the rumors that have flown around the entire event, one would guess that the first woman linked to Cruise would become the most talked about person in Hollywood. Although she may be close to that title, there is a distinct lack of an edge to the talk about Penelope Cruz, the Spanish beauty that has captured Tom's eye.
During a recent interview with the New York Daily News, Penelope Cruz talked a little bit about herself, and even less about her relationship with Cruise. "I'm about feelings," says Cruz, 27, in her lilting Spanish accent. "In life, I cannot lie. I'm terrible, the worst. If I try to lie, my mouth starts moving." When asked whether the press has proven to be an increasingly obtrusive annoyance, she responds, "It depends on how you live with it," she says softly. "I have a right to keep things for myself and do the best I can and try not to be affected by everyone analyzing my personal life. I don't think it gets in the way of work. You are safe if you work hard and keep learning. That's the only thing that will save you."
But Penelope made it clear that she was not interested in revealing any details of her relationship with Cruz and pleasantly explained herself. "I don't talk about my private life," she said uneasily. "Sometimes [stories] can go too far. It's happened to many of my friends." Her press savvy and her image as a pleasant, kind-hearted beauty will surely be put to the test as long as her relationship with Cruise continues.
