Keep your fingers crossed Cowboys and Cardinal fans

The Cowboys played there first preseason game on Saturday, see what they need to improve, and what the Cardinals also need to do.
For those of you who don't know, the Dallas Cowboys played their first preseason game on Saturday.

Funny thing is you would not have known unless some told you.

Why you ask?

Well, the Cowboys really didn't do much to show improvement from last season and the scoreboard showed what they were able to do -- absolutely nothing.

Here's a short summary of the preseason opener. Notables: Dallas Cowboys

QB Chad Hutchinson got the nod to start the game, and also to take away any doubts of why he should not be the starter for the upcoming season. Sadly, he made the decision even harder by fumbling a ball, which he did six times last season, and compiled a dismal 43 yards in the four offensive series he was put in. I will admit though his completion percentage may have been better had the receivers not dropped three of passes.

Quincy Carter the other heralded Cowboy quarterback also had a horrendous showing. He did show his mobility at times during the game, but just like last year he managed to throw a pass to a double covered receiver. This led to a Cardinal interception, and also puts Bill Parcells in a huge bind. ON the bright side Carter did put up better stats than Hutchinson, going 8-13 for 81 yards.

Dallas Defense was subpar at best, other than the outstanding play of second year safety Roy Williams, who in one half accumulated 4 tackles, a huge sack, and one fumble recovery. He is by far the best player for the Cowboys.

Notables: Arizona Cardinals

Emmitt Smith was able to get in one 11-yard first down catch for the Cardinals. Other than that he was as invisible as the Cowboys offense. QB Jeff Blake was 5-11 with 52 yards. He is battling Josh McCown for the starting job. Looked very poised and relaxed during the game. McCown was 7-14 for 60 yards. Overall, I was surprised how well the Cardinals played. They didn't make many costly mistakes and the quarterbacks made the right decisions. Of course they were playing a struggling Cowboys team. Looks like the Cardinals could be a huge threat if they get their receivers into the offense. The Cowboys on the other hand, they better get better in a hurry or there in for another 5-11 repeat.

Final Score: Cowboys-0, Cardinals-13
