Crow has recently spoken about the break-up in a new interview with Vanity Fair magazine. Crow says she had a hard time staying away from Armstrong after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She says the break-up itself was "devastating" and claims to still love him. After two years of dating and a five-month engagement, Crow, 44, and Armstrong, 34, called it quits on their romance in February. Crow was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer a mere 17 days later.
Crow reports that she contacted her parents first after being diagnosed and then sent a message via her BlackBerry to Armstrong who was taking a road trip to Oregon from Lake Tahoe. Armstrong, a cancer survivor himself, says that he was shocked by the news. Said Armstrong, "When I got that news, I can’t even describe it. It was the cruelest twist. I actually turned around to make the drive to L.A. We talked along the way and she said, ‘You know, I just don’t think that’s a great idea.’"
There were rumors that Armstrong dumped Crow after learning about her cancer, but she has slammed those rumors. Other rumors surfaced that Armstrong did not want to start another family and Crow did. Armstrong has three children from his previous marriage – Luke, 6, and twins Isabella and Grace, 4. Crow said in the interview, "It would be easy to say this is all about my wanting to get married and have kids but it was never that simple. It was much deeper than that." Crow says she still feels "bruised" and "vulnerable" after the whole experience, but she is on the road to recovery. She had surgery in February and reportedly all reports look good. She is also kicking off a tour with John Mayer at the end of August in Philadelphia with a portion of the proceeds benefiting breast cancer.
