The Four Seasons at Logarska Valley Landscape Park

Dramatically revealed as the sun inches toward the horizon, but takes a visit to appreciate the special appeal of the valley and to discover its rewards.
The nature of things. Spring, summer, autumn and winter… each season has a charm of its own. Well, it couldn’t be any other way in Logarska dolina. That’s why this beautiful valley has become a favorite year round tourist destination, be it for lonely travelers, couples or families.

When the good weather returns in spring, the valley dresses up like a bride. The trees blossom, the grass is green and luscious, the fields are brimming with flowers, the mountain sides are speckled with all sorts of cheerful colors. The grass is soft, the larch trees turn green. This awakening of nature, a true burst of energy and vitality, invites one to take walk or bicycle along the valley, enjoying the peace and quiet. Everybody ends up finding a favorite corner in Logarska, and the valley is a true romantic treasure.

Summer is the time to put on your hiking boots and go hiking…. The smell of pine trees are laden with fruit. The best way to explore the valley is on foot. The old paths often lead to farmhouses where you will most likely be offered some delicious soft drink. The valley’s green floor becomes covered with blossoms. The mountain peaks of the Kamniske-Savijske Alps shimmer in the blue sky. A perfect time to take a tour to Rinka and Palenk waterfalls or the source of the Crna River. You will enjoy the Logarska dolina trail program. Alpine flowers will be in full blossom. You can try mountaineering or bicycling on the panoramic road. What about to work on a farm, cutting grass or store hay.

Between the month of September and late December, there are days when the valley is enveloped by a unique, soft and beautiful light. Among the dark green pines below the rocky cliffs, larch trees dress yellow. A good time for long walks in the forest solitude. However, the weather is not always at its best during these month. But it is the perfect moment to discover the charms of the valleys varied cuisine.

Earth color in sunny days of winter. There is nothing better than skiing cross-country over the snow covered fields and slopes of the valley. You can do country skiing, sledding, downhill skiing, ice climbing on frozen waterfalls.

As far as the culture, the valley also has plenty to offer. Cultural events cover a week – long program of activities. You can tell old stores are still alive...

The Slovene "Solcavska region" covers three Alpine valleys, Robanov kot, Logarska dolina and Matkov kot, the village of Solcava and farms above Matkov and Robanov kot, and the foothills of Olseva and Raduha mountains. Both the Logarska and Robanov kot valleys are protected natural reserves. From a distance the region gives few clues to its distinctive beauty. Roads are few and generally empty. The region clings to tradition. A place where you can look inward as much as outward and discover untamed outdoor beauty. You will find the Slovene culture woven into the fabrics of every day life.

Logarska valley is nestled in the heart of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, an ideal starting point for numerous excursions. But the foundations of the picturesque Alpine valley were laid down thousands of years ago during the Ice Age when glaciers shaped basin. The valley lies enshrouded by the peaks of Ojstrica, Planjava, Brana, Turska Gora and Rinke, all of which rise above 2,000 metres. The valley is divided into three parts, the lower tract is called Log, the central one Plest, the upper part Kot. Log and Plest are covered in meadows, Kot is partially forested. The attraction of Logarska Valley are its natural sights and a pristine environment.

In 1992, the Logarska valley locals established a non profit company for the development of the valley and were granted municipal concession to manage their landscape park. During the first years of its operation the attention was given to preservation of the basic structure of the park. A nature preservation service was set up and a visitor information system was developed. Among investment projects is a traffic zone with three parking lots at the entrance to the valley, a sewerage system, cleaning equipment purchase, a biomass heating network and a Logarska nature-ethnographic trail.

The Logarska dolina landscape park offers a range of accommodation at family hotels, pensions, tourist farms, mountain lodges, private rooms. The Dairy cottage is open mostly during June, July and August. It offers delicious traditional food.

There are 40 registered natural attractions in Logarska dolina, from waterfalls, rock towers, caves, glacial boulders, trees and unique flora and fauna.

SLOVENIA, an EU member state, offers an outstanding mosaic of biological, landscape, and cultural diversity, natural assets, and a diverse cultural heritage. 11 percent of Slovenia’s territory are protected in various categories. Forty-four protected areas include one national park, three regional parks, and forty landscape parks.

HOW TO GET THERE
By car or bus from the Slovene capital Ljubljana to Solcava.
By train to Celje, and by car or local bus to Logarska dolina.
The Logarska Dolina Tourism office organizes transportation to the valley from any location in Slovenia upon prior request.
