Williams says goodbye

Imagine making more money than you can ever spend, and then saying goodbye. That's just what Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams said this past weekend.
We've heard it before -- an athlete gives up all that money to quit playing a sport.

No, we aren't talking about the late Pat Tillman who walked away from the Arizona Cardinals to join the army.

We're talking about Ricky Williams of the Miami Dolphins who this past weekend announced his "retirement" from football.

Yes, the same guy who the Dolphins picked up from the New Orleans Saints for basically half the city of New Orleans.

Williams claims he is leaving because, depending on who you believe, he needs to find himself or he's tired of getting hit.

That's wonderful that he needs to "find himself," but at 27 years old, don't you think you should know who you are?

As for not liking to get hit all the time, sorry, but maybe he should have picked a different profession.

He's supposed to get his butt kicked by guys named Warren Sapp and Teddy Brucchi.

So, instead of showing up at the Dolphis training camp, Williams is somewhere in Asia, "finding himself."

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for leaving the job if you're unhappy, and sometimes you just can't do that mandatory two week notice thing.

However, that's for us "Joe Schmoes" who are making minimum wage, not someone like Williams.

A professional football player doesn't wait until two days before training camp to announce his retirement.

That is not only unfair to the Dolphins staff and management, but what about your teamates, not to mention the Dolphin fans who were expecting to see you play this season?

Defenders of Williams say why is he so different than Pat Tillman?

Simple, Tillman knew what he wanted to do and the Arizona Cardinals didn't build their team around him.

Williams claims that "he wrestled with this decision since January."

Really? Why didn't he tell the Dolphins in January then?

Williams still might come back, so says his agent.

Great, when is that? When he finally finds himself or the money isn't so great anymore?

I don't know about you, but Williams sounds like a spoiled brat who gets mad every time things don't go his way.

What did he learn from playing all those games against the Oklahoma or Texas A&M while he was at U. of Texas?

You take hits and you don't quit or need to find yourself.

So, whats the difference now?
