Pete Townshend | Roger Daltrey | Justin Timberlake | Lance Bass | Reichen Lehmkuhl | David Hasselhoff | the Queen | Prince Philip | Prince William...By Mark Brown
All is not sweetness and light between members of the Who. Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey have fallen out over webcasting. Townshend writes on his online diary that free webcasts will end because Daltrey disagrees with the project. "Seriously, he seems to be unconvinced that the web has any real contribution to make to our career, and I am not going to spend any more time or money mortgaging my half of the stage." Elsewhere he gives a fascinating insight into the creative fusion: "Roger is my partner in the Who. He is not my partner in anything else. We love each other but are not regular social buddies like Bono and Edge, we do not discuss or share ideas, and we have no unified joint vision or strategy for the Who or for creative projects in general." Honestly, they're like a married couple.
Remember N'Sync, the US boy band that launched Justin Timberlake on to the world? The quiet one, Lance Bass, has continued the trend of pop stars coming out once they are not so famous. In an interview with People magazine, Bass says: "I knew that I was in this popular band and I had four other guys' careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said [that I was gay], it would overpower everything." Which is probably true. Anyway, he is happy and liberated, he says, and taken - going out with Reichen Lehmkuhl, a model-actor so good-looking that he once played the role of "impossibly handsome man" in an episode of Frasier.
A cup of tea and a long book are in order for David Hasselhoff. The Baywatch star has had a terrible time of it lately. Yesterday he was pictured in the Sun looking worse for wear and the victim of one of those incidents when you splash yourself in the groin while washing your hands. The paper reported that BA refused to let him on the 7am flight to Los Angeles until he sobered up. One witness said: "He wasn't aggressive, he just had problems standing." It follows the incident last month when Hasselhoff was taken to hospital after hitting his head on a low-slung chandelier at London's Sanderson Hotel while shaving.
Following news that the Queen and Prince Philip are cruising around the Western Isles in a former car ferry comes a report that Prince William was spotted in a Tesco at Cheriton, near Folkestone, on Wednesday buying a T-shirt. The red crewneck normally retails for £2 but was in the sale and therefore a bargain £1.
