CFL Power Rankings -- Week 2

It's week two of the 2003 CFL power rankings and already there's a new number one.
Last week, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers started the 2003 CFL Power Rankings in the same spot they were at this time last season: No. 1.

This week, they're not there anymore. (Yeah, I know, a horrible spoiler. But, what are you gonna do? It was in the teaser.)

So, who is the new No. 1? Let's take a look...

Breakdown Rank 1. Edmonton (8-0) 2. BC (7-1) 3. Saskatchewan (6-2) 4. Montreal (5-3) 5. Calgary (4-4) 6. Toronto (3-5) 7. Ottawa (2-5-1) 7. Winnipeg (2-5-1) 9. Hamilton (0-9)

Edmonton's 52-14 blowout of Hamilton gave them the number one spot in the breakdown rank for this week. Close behind was BC, who clobbered Ottawa in their home stadium. Chris Szarka and Saskatchewan literally ran over Hamilton, who didn't manage to outscore Ottawa and Winnipeg with their average score. Montreal and Calgary waged war, but the Alouettes managed to stay on top. Toronto's victory over Winnipeg sealed them sixth place.

Wins 1. Montreal (4-1) 1. Winnipeg (4-1) 3. Edmonton (3-2) 3. Saskatchewan (3-2) 5. BC (3-2) 6. Ottawa (2-3) 7. Toronto (2-3) 8. Calgary (2-3) 9. Hamilton (0-5)

Montreal's win and Winnipeg's loss gives them an equal record up to week five. Edmonton, Saskatchewan, and BC each have identical records, but because the Eskimos and Green Riders have better division records than the Lions, they each grab seven points. The same happens for the next three teams Ottawa down to Calgary. Hamilton, meanwhile, remains winless.

Win Ratio Factor 1. Montreal (3.25) 1. Winnipeg (3.25) 3. Edmonton (3.3) 4. Saskatchewan (4.3) 5. BC (5.0) 6. Ottawa (5.5) 7. Toronto (6.0) 8. Calgary (6.5) 9. Hamilton (N/A) Montreal and Winnipeg again wind up on the top of one of the categories with both teams scoring a 3.25 WRF. Edmonton is next, followed by Saskatchewan, BC, and Ottawa. Toronto, Calgary, and Hamilton wind up the nine.

Average Margin of Victory 1. Toronto (+26) 2. Edmonton (+21) 3. BC (+13) 3. Calgary (+13) 5. Saskatchewan (+12) 6. Montreal (+8) 7. Ottawa (+6) 8. Winnipeg (+3) 9. Hamilton (N/A)

Toronto is on top of the average margin of victory once again with a +26 in two victories. Edmonton has clobbered opponents in their three wins this year, their last the 37-point blowout against Hamilton. BC and Calgary each have a thirteen point average margin of victory. Saskatchewan is right behind the Stampeders and Lions. Montreal, Ottawa, and Winnipeg are the next three followed by Hamilton, who do not have a victory.

Total Points 1. Edmonton (31 points) 2. Montreal (28 points) 3. Saskatchewan (25 points) 3. BC (25 points) 5. Winnipeg (23 points) 6. Toronto (16 points) 7. Calgary (15 points) 8. Ottawa (14 points) 9. Hamilton (4 points)

The Edmonton Eskimos are the new number one, finishing no lower than third in the four categories. Montreal once again is in second place, but only three points behind. Saskatchewan and BC are tied for the third position with 25 points a piece with Winnipeg two points behind. Finishing out the nine are Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, and Hamilton.

This Week's Schedule

Montreal visits Winnipeg in the first meeting between the two top teams in the league. Ottawa travels to Vancouver to face BC and will try to extract some amount of revenge for the Lions' decimation of the Renegades. Saskatchewan hosts Edmonton in what could be a possible battle for first place in the West if Winnipeg loses. Finally, Calgary will come back home to McMahon Stadium to face Toronto.
