The ultimate road trip (Part 1)
If you could choose just one college football game to attend this year, which one would it be? We couldn't decide either so we planned a 15 week, 37 game road trip.
Maybe this is just a fantasy. Maybe there is no way anyone could take this trip. But if you're a college football fanatic, this is the ultimate road trip.
We'll travel for 15 weeks, see 37 games, visit 30 stadiums and see a few surprises thrown in along the way. We'll visit some of college football's most hallowed halls -- Notre Dame Stadium, Neyland Stadium (Tennessee), Memorial Stadium (Nebraska), Beaver Stadium (Penn State), and the Rose Bowl (UCLA). We'll also visit California University (of Pennsylvania that is!) and see our annual PSAC Division II game. Here is your itinerary for the first half of the most exciting road trip a college football fan could take.
August 23 - New Mexico State at Louisville We begin the trip at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. We also get our first look at last year's C-USA Offensive Player of the Year, Dave Ragone.
August 25 - Pigskin Classic: TCU at Nebraska Eric Crouch gets and early start on the season and tries to get Nebraska back to the Big 12 championship game. TCU begins life without LaDainian Tomlinson.
August 30 - Geneva at California, PA Unfortunately, this is our only PSAC game of the year.
August 31 - Minnesota at Toledo A battle of unbeatens and the only game on the schedule.
September 1 - Miami at Penn State Can Joe Pa get a win to tie the Bear? We'll be in Happy Valley to find out.
September 2 - Purdue at Cincinnati A Sunday in Cincinnati and we're NOT watching the Bengals.
September 6 - Texas A&M at Wyoming Not a great match up, but it sure is pretty out here.
September 7 - Northwestern at UNLV Our first of two trips to Vegas. Maybe we can get some action on tomorrow's game.
September 8 - Michigan at Washington Will the Wolverines be able to handle Washington's All-American candidate, Larry Tripplett? This could be a real defensive battle. We'll go with the under.
September 13 - Penn State at Virginia A Thursday night in September with two great coaches. This one should be a lot of fun.
September 14 - Colorado State at UNLV Surprisingly, this should be a good game between two up-and-coming teams.
September 15 - Tennessee at Florida This is an awesome early season match up between SEC East Rivals. One of these teams will be in the SEC Championship Game.
September 20 - South Carolina at Mississippi State South Carolina returns 16 starters from last year's 8-4 team. Mississippi St. could be the team to beat in the SEC West. We'll see another great Thursday night match up.
September 22 - Ohio State at UCLA No, it's not New Year's Day in the Rose Bowl, but UCLA is playing for a chance to get there and vie for the National Championship in their own back yard.
September 27 - Miami at Pitt This game features Antonio Bryant versus Edward Reed. The winner of this battle has the best shot at pulling out the victory.
September 29 - LSU at Tennessee Our travels take us from Pitt's new stadium (Heinz Field) to Neyland Stadium in Tennessee. It will be worth the drive.
Come back tomorrow for part two of the rest of the trip.
