The Main Event

For years, the WWE has had the same people in the main event. It's time to push someone new.
The WWE has little faith in pushing new people into the main event.

For years, the main event scene consisted of The Rock, Steve Austin, The Undertaker and HHH.

Upper mid-carders such as Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Rob Van Dam and Kurt Angle have had their taste of being at the top of the card, but it wasn't too long before the WWE had them pushed back down to their original spot.

In 1999, HHH was pushed down everybody's throats. Nobody wanted to see him in main event pay-per-views, but the WWE (then WWF) did it anyway because they believed they had a star.

Then when 2000 hit, HHH became a success by having tremendous matches with anyone he was put up against.

The WWE didn't quit with pushing HHH even though they knew the fans didn't buy him as a top guy. They kept doing it, and now HHH is one of the top guys in the industry.

In mid 2000, the WWE tried to create some new main eventers.

They immediately inserted Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle and had them main event the Fully Loaded 2000 pay-per-view.

In his match with the Undertaker, Angle was squashed (a one-sided match where the loser has no offense). Jericho took on HHH in a Last Man Standing match, which was the highlight of the pay-per-view. Jericho had a lot of offense, but still lost the match.

In the main event for the WWE title, The Rock defeated Chris Benoit.

The WWE put in new people in the main event, and immediately had them lose. When the WWE didn't know why these three weren't getting main event reactions from the live crowd, they were pushed back down.

Since then, they WWE has had a tough time putting over new main eventers. They either don't have enough confidence in the person, or a wrestler backstage is in fear of losing his spot and will do anything it takes to make sure the person won't make it to the main event.

The best example of a person doing this is HHH.

In 2001, Jeff Hardy defeated him for the Intercontinental title. Everyone thought that Jeff Hardy was going to be the next person the WWE tried to push up to main event status. But the week after, HHH squashed Hardy and won back the Intercontinental title and Hardy was then pushed back down to mid-carder.

Jericho was the first Undisputed champion. However, he was booked as someone who anyone could beat, but cheated in order to keep his title.

When Wrestlemania X-8 came around, Jericho was scheduled to face HHH for the title. HHH felt that the focus shouldn't be on him and Jericho. Instead, he thought focus should be put on HHH, Stephanie McMahon (Jericho's manager) and their pet dog.

HHH then defeated Jericho for the title in Wrestlemania. Then, as usual, Jericho was pushed back down.

The WWE now feels that Brock Lesnar is the next person to carry the WWE.

Lesnar is going to face The Rock at Summerslam in August for the Undisputed title.

The Rock is scheduled to film a movie shortly after, so the obvious thing to do is to have Lesnar win the title. But Lesnar is getting no reactions from the live crowds and is getting pushed down everybody's throats (just like HHH was).

Will this move be drastic for the company or is it the answer the WWE is looking for?
