Cambodia deported 20 people, including 14 Britons, at the weekend for allegedly defrauding the state telephone company of £17,000 by making overseas calls through local phone lines and the internet as part of a share trading scam.

Cambodian authorities decided not to prosecute the suspects, who have been banned from re-entering the country, after they paid court officials in Phnom Penh the amount they reportedly owed.

The unnamed Britons were aged 24 to 53.

It is thought they were selling financial services without being licensed and were working under the cover of a new charity.
