Planning a Team Building Event? Go for Go-Karting
This article represents the experience of one company, that arranged their team building in Lithuania.
Recently, my colleagues and I have had a wonderful holiday weekend in Lithuania. The go-karting event, which took place in Vilnius, the capital city, has been one of the best our team building experiences. Now I would like to share some of the unforgettable holiday impressions with those who are interested in team building opportunities and exciting activities abroad.
Our team then was a group of newly employed people who had been working together for a short period of time. Any team in a company or organization is expected to co-operate, which first of all has to deal with many psychological or moral tasks such as learning to appreciate each other’s skills and abilities, trying to get to know each other better in order to avoid various misunderstandings, being tolerant, supportive, etc. Only then the group will be able to get involved in the work as a team and overcome the challenges much more successfully. And this is what was really missing in our particular case – the spirit of teamwork.
Now I see that team building holidays and the extreme karting event was just what we needed. For me, the race has been a unique experience as an alternative way to spend my weekend holidays and as an opportunity to have a good time with my colleagues in a relaxing environment. The very karting event was superb, and we all enjoyed it very much. If you are planning a similar event, karting will be an excellent solution. The exhilaration of racing wheel-to-wheel, two inches from the ground in karts reaching 44mph and the practical application of essential group skills including communication, teamwork, and creativity have made for our best corporate outing. It has been a great experience to share and discuss together afterwards and up to this day… The entire event was organized by a travel agency (the transfer from and to the airport, accommodation, catering, racing equipment, even the award ceremony and the short sightseeing tour in Vilnius), so we didn’t have to bother about anything.
All in all, the team building experience has been useful in our jobs. I don’t mean that it has revolutionized our cooperation or made our interpersonal communication ideal once and for all, but the tremendous karting weekend has surely been a very important step towards creating a most pleasant working atmosphere and a more productive day-to-day collaboration in our team.
