The Warwickshire batsman Ian Bell is likely to be included in today's 20-strong provisional list being considered for this winter's Academy squad which will travel to Adelaide before Christmas.
Every player will be monitored and filmed so that the Academy's director Rod Marsh, the former Australian Test wicketkeeper, has a detailed record before the final 15-man party is chosen at the end of the season.
Bell, flown out to New Zealand last winter as cover for England's senior squad, had been expected to become the first member of the Academy to progress to a Test debut this summer. But his slow start to the season persuaded the selectors to choose John Crawley instead.
He is likely to be joined by Glamorgan's fast bowler Simon Jones, who was included in the England squad for the final two Tests against Sri Lanka without making the team.
Another candidate is the Lancashire all-rounder Kyle Hogg, grandson of the West Indian spinner Sonny Ramadhin.
