Daddy’s Not Coming

This is about my dad...he got arrested when I was 4 and I haven't seen him since. Then one day he sent me a Valentine’s Day card...and I wrote this…
You weren’t there when I was little
you’re not here when I’m almost a woman
you’re behind bars, they’ve locked you in and threw away the key
when I was younger that really bothered me,
but now that I’m big girl, they tell me its going to be ok,
they tell me that there will come a day,
where my daddy being gone, doesn’t bother me,
when I was little, and you weren’t there,
who was suppose to chase the boogie man,
out from under my bed?
who was going to tell me that everything was alright,
that there was really nothing under my bed
or in my closet that would try to get me.
well, if you didn't know this, that was your job,
I waited patiently, looking out the window on a rainy day,
dressed all nice,
because daddy was coming to take me out to dinner,
I waited and waited, till mommy said,
daddy’s not coming,
we called your house a zillion times I think,
bet you never picked up,
so I went to bed thinking it was all a mistake,
that in the morning you would be there,
but then I realized
daddy’s not coming--
10 years went by, I’m 14 now,
the boogie man doesn’t bother me,
we get along pretty well
the other day I tripped and fell
I looked up, hoping that
daddy would be there to help me up,
but then I remembered
daddy isn't coming--
mommy told me
that you'd be getting out soon.
you must have wrote her,
if you did, I didn't see it
but as I sit here in my boring study hall class
I think that my daddy’s coming back,
would bother me more
than daddy going away
so daddy, if your really are getting out soon,
stay away because,
all my love and respect for you
left on that rainy day----
