The day after tomorrow

With the help of astonishing and nerve stimulating special effects, filmmaker Roland Emmerich has tried his best to bring the most unthinkable to life on screen. The movie tries to bring in to picture disastrous effects of Global warming and the changes in climatic conditions that can be triggered because of it. It is very hard to tell which special effect was best from the movie, was it the gigantic water wave rising from ocean heading to Manhattan, cold wave that freezes everything it meets in its way, horrifying but pretty looking rings of cloud shown from space station, or a series of tornados that nearly destroys New York city?

Professor Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid) who is a brilliant paleodimatologist, who tries to explain world about the climatic changes that are consequences of Global warming, he puts forward the findings of his research which shows that world’s climate could undergo sudden catastrophic changes. Finally the day arrives when sudden climatic changes start taking place all over the world. In this situation he heads to New York City (which is in grip of new Ice age) in search of his son Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal). At the other end, after listening to his dad’s suggestion to stay inside, Sam and his friends take refuge in a huge Public Library in New York, where they burn books to keep themselves warm and stay alive. The movie was successful in keeping the viewers busy in guessing which breathtaking scene will flash on screen the next moment?

The movie "The day after tomorrow" is an outcome of a careful study of Global warming and is successful in covering the most important areas that are needed to be thought most about. Even if most of us are not aware of (or some do not care at all about) the destruction we are causing to our own earth and its weather, it is for sure that our grandchildren will have to pay for it, if not us.

Although the movie has too many pot holes, the story fails in holding its own reality, there are some situations where vice president of America tries to create some stupid tension in spite the things those are happening all around the world, some unbelievable and virtually impossible climatic conditions kills millions of people, and no serious attention was paid towards making the dialogues a sensible experience, the movie was successful in bringing the reality into picture that no one has seen future yet and anything can happen very next moment. Roland Emmerich has once again showed his mastery in conveying destruction and disaster on a grand scale which we had seen in his creations "Independence Day" and "Godzilla", I am sure that this is one part where viewers won’t be disappointed.

The movie was intended to teach viewers about the problems that can emerge because of usage of fossil fuels and destruction of nature, if we keep polluting the environment we are staying in and forget about the nature, no one can deny that we might one day see the brutal face of the nature and die just like million people in the movie, but in the end it finishes with a few minutes of speech. But while watching this movie, all you can do is to sit back and enjoy the ultimate special effects which can make you forget about the holes and away from reality part of this movie. Finally the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" has all the signs of a major blockbuster.
