There was better news for England today as John Terry jogged at training without the heavy strapping to his left thigh which he has been wearing since injuring himself last week.

However the Chelsea defender did not join the other players preparing for Sunday's Euro 2004 match against France and remains a major a doubt.

Earlier, England's medical staff had Terry undergoing physiotherapy in the team hotel pool at 7.30am as part of his "aggressive rehabilitation" from a hamstring injury.

Despite the importance of Sunday's Group B opener, coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is unlikely to risk Terry suffering an even worse injury if he is not fully fit.

In his absence, the task of stopping striker Thierry Henry and playmaker Zinedine Zidane is likely to fall to Jamie Carragher who deputised for Terry in Saturday's 6-1 friendly win over Iceland.

Although the media attention centred on Terry's fitness, a group of schoolkids focussed on England captain David Beckham, continually screaming his name.
