Animal Radio Network Goes on Tour

by Amanda Katz

The Animal Radio Network (ARN), which produces a weekly program devoted to pets that is heard throughout the United States, has undertaken a year-long tour of the country "to reduce...surrenders (to shelters) and unnecessary euthanasia of healthy animals through education."

During the 2003 Alfa-Dog Cross-Country Tour, the ARN will broadcast from 40 different cities. Among them will be Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston and Baltimore.

At each stop along the way, the ARN will offer in its approximately 40-foot-long "classroom on wheels, affectionately called the Alfa-Dog," a day-long seminar for pet owners. In addition, pictures of animals available for adoption will be taken and posted on the ARN’s Web site.

Among the animal experts scheduled to participate during the tour are famed dog trainer Bash Dibra, SPAY/USA founder Esther Mechler, Emergency Vets regular Kevin Fitzgerald, DVM and American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Director of Special Projects Jacque Schultz.

"Knowledge is power," said ARN founder Hal Abrams. "By educating humans about the importance of spaying, neutering and responsible animal guardianship, we all have the power to reduce shelter surrenders and end the unnecessary killing of innocent cats and dogs."
