Making the Most of Small Bathrooms

Some bathrooms are hungary for space. However, one needs to carefully consider space savers.
Making the Most of Small Bathrooms
Often finding enough space to store what is necessary, especially in small bathrooms. In many cases the medicine cabinet is not big enough to store even essentials such as aspirin, cold medicine, and first aid supplies let alone toothpaste, razors, deodorant, and other personal hygiene items that are used each time one takes a shower.

Depending how the bathroom is laid out, a variety of space saving storage units are available. There are wall units for those bathrooms that have some extra wall space, and for the really small bathrooms, one can utilize a space saver over the toilet étagère. If it doesn’t get too much in the way, one can find small cabinets that sit on the floor to use for towels and other small things that are necessary.

If you own your own or are a renter who has permission to add to the premises, the option is available to add a second or larger over the sink medicine cabinet. Although the customary fare is to include just one of these units, and just a basic one with only three small shelves, other units are available that have triple the space and extend across the entire width of the sink. These units can be purchased as either wall hung or recessed, meaning it’s actually cut into your wall.

Another type of space saver for a small bathroom is the shower caddy and suction mounted caddy for the shower. In these caddies, you can place shampoo, body wash, shave gel, toothpaste, toothbrush, and any other items that you might use while you are in the shower. These not only save space but also put these frequently used items within easy reach when you are showering.

Another space saver for small bathrooms is the sink vanity. Many of these come with drawers where small items such as toothpaste, combs, brushes, hair clips, and even razors, and soap can be stored. If you are a homeowner who can choose a new vanity, look around at the various stores that sell bathroom accessories and find the one that will suit your needs as well as fit your budget.

Although small bathrooms can be an inconvenience with their lack of space, the creative decorator can find ways to utilize the small space that is available with many space saving ideas and shelves that don’t take a great deal of room. Something as simple as a wicker basket hung on the wall for lipsticks, hair clips, and combs can make a huge difference when trying to organize things in a small space. It doesn’t take a great deal of creativity, just some creativity and ingenuity to put everything into perspective. Take the time to look at your space, see what you need to do, and then proceed with your plan. Every one has a creative streak, but the problem is most of us do not use it. Get in touch with your creative self, and make the most of the space you have in your small bathroom.
