Pregnancy, labor and Hypnotism
Well some of you might be aware of how hypnotism can help women during their pregnancy and most importantly during labor; while some you probably see no link between hypnotism and pregnancy or hypnotism and labor. Take it from a person who has had first hand experience, hypnotism helps you deal with any anxious moments that you might have during and after pregnancy and hypnotism can be considered a boon while in labor.
I confide, the first time I heard that hypnotism was one of the techniques used to reduce the pain a women experiences during labor I did not know what to make out of it. I had several comments like will it work on me? But I don’t believe in hypnotism, it sounds a wee bit funny etc. Then I realized that expectant mothers who do not wish to go in for an epidural have no choice but to go for a natural birth. With this fact in mind expectant mothers should decide to go the hypnotism way as they have nothing to loose. If they do or if they don’t get hypnotized they still would be giving natural birth to the apple of their eyes.
The key reason for hypnotism during pregnancy and labor is to get the body and mind of the mother to a completely relaxed state. This relaxed state of body and mind helps deal with any nervousness that one might feel during the crucial 9 months. This relaxed state of mind and body gives the strength to handle the excruciating pain of labor and probably even reduces the time period a woman is in labor.
This relaxation state can be achieved by self hypnotism, by listening to relaxations tapes and CD’s which include light music in the background with instructions that need to be heard carefully and followed or reading of relaxation notes by your near and dear ones. All these methods of relaxation basically probe the expectant mother to relax her eyes, hands, fingers, legs, feet, neck and slowly her entire body. Settling down of the mind is achieved by asking her to dream, imagine herself in her favorite place surrounded by all her favorite possessions carrying out her favorite activities. Ones she loosens up a bit she is made aware of how beautiful and powerful she is to bring a new life into this world.
Hypnotism even focuses on breathing which helps one to completely calm down and unwind; and then again no one can deny the benefits of long and deep breathing especially during labor.
The aim of hypnotism is to help a woman who is in labor to completely let go everything, feel totally relaxed and concentrate on taking long and deep breaths. Proper breathing helps labor proceed faster.
The best part about hypnotism is that you can reach such a relaxed state of mind and body that one can fall asleep at least for some time in spite of the unbearable pain. Believe me this some time if it is even a mere half hour it is no less than a gods gift while you are expecting another gods gift.
Hypnotism also helps cater to stress that arises during and after pregnancy. A woman undergoes a lot of anxious moments during her nine months of pregnancy – what if my baby has six fingers? What if my baby can’t hear? These are some of the natural thoughts that come a to a woman’s mind. Hypnotism does wonders in such times.
After pregnancy, a mother could get overwhelmed adjusting to her new life, adjusting to the new daily chores, thoughts about how can I get into shape again etc. Hypnotism does wonders in such times too.
On a small note I would like to end this topic sincerely hoping you all readers get a chance to experiment with this technique and reap the benefits of the same.
