Matthew McConaughey & Penelope Cruz Split
Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz have called it quits after more than a year of dating.

The couple released a joint statement announcing that they "have decided to take time off as a couple. Due to busy work schedules and so much time apart, they mutually decided four weeks ago that separating was the best thing to do at this time." The couple met while filming Sahara in 2004, shortly after Cruz’s relationship with Tom Cruise ended, and quickly became an item. The couple has claimed it is hard to maintain a relationship while spending so much time apart.
A source close to Cruz, 32, said, "They’re good friends, but they haven’t been able to be together. Who knows what the future holds." The source went on to say, "Penelope said it has been too hard to have a relationship when you see the other person every six weeks." Reportedly, Cruz and McConaughey last saw each other on the set of her new movie in March. She is currently filming Manolete in Spain. The movie is about the legendary bullfighter and co-stars Adrien Brody. McConaughey, 36, is filming We Are…Marshall, a movie based on Jack Lengyel, the former football coach for Marshall University.
The last few times that they have been spotted in public as a couple, they reportedly did not look too happy. The pressure of being apart all the time allegedly led to many fights between the two. Cruz has been romantically linked to Cruise, Matt Damon, and Nicolas Cage. McConaughey has reportedly dated Ashley Judd and Sandra Bullock, even though neither he nor Bullock has ever commented on their relationship saying only that they were "just friends." Neither McConaughey, who was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2005, nor Cruz has ever been married. Guess we will just have to wait and see what happens between the two in the future.
