Yoga Practice: Increase Your Spiritual Awareness As Well As Your Level of Physical Fitness

The ancient practice of yoga has been used for many centuries by persons seeking to increase their spiritual awareness as well as their level of physical fitness.
While there are many ways in which one can exercise and increase physical fitness, few exercises can boast more than being merely physical in nature. Conversely, many of the spiritual practices - for example, meditation - provide little in the way of physical exercise. For this reason, one of the best practices is one that engages both the physical body as well as the spirit. An ideal practice for this is yoga, which exercises both body and soul fully.

Developed countless centuries ago by Indian mystics, the practice of yoga rests on the ancient Eastern notion (to which we in the West are slowly becoming hip to) of the unity between body and spirit. The distinction between body and soul (i.e. - mind) is, for practitioners of yoga, in fact a false distinction and one which they do not embrace. Mental health does come merely from "healthy" mental practices, just as physical health does not come from merely bodily exercise. Rather, in the tradition of yoga, to be considered "fit", one must be so entirely.
