Allergy Symptoms: For Sufferers, Allergies Are A Real Problem
While allergy medications mean big money for drug companies wanting you to be able run freely through a field of dandelions, for sufferers they are a real problem.
If, like this writer, you have never suffered from allergies, and have seen the countless television advertisements of the - equally countless - pharmaceutical companies peddling their allergy elixirs, which boast a most impressive array of just about every manner of seemingly unpleasant side-effect, you may with good reason well wonder if these medications are worth all of the fuss. Are, for example, abdominal pains, fits of vomiting and other nasty complications really a fair price to pay for relief from sneezing? Better to be able to "enjoy" the great outdoors while doubled-over in a field of flowers writhing in pain than not at all? For most allergy sufferers, the answer is "yes". And in truth there is a good deal more to this than those of us who have never suffered from allergies can fully appreciate.
Indeed, millions of Americans suffer every year from allergies related to everything from pollen to cat hair to dust mites. Particularly for those who suffer from asthmatic attacks, all of these little air-borne beasties can be particularly nasty. And there, of course, other types of allergies which are equally prevalent and unpleasant. For example, certain types of food such as dairy products - even peanut butter - may cause certain allergic reactions.
Fortunately, there is no shortage of information available for the allergy sufferer. There are numerous companies that have websites that seek to explain what their specific drugs do to ease the discomfort of allergies and there are others that provide valuable information on many of the differing allergens. So, if allergies - seasonal or otherwise - have got you down, you should at least be able to take comfort in the fact that you are not alone and that there is a good deal of help available…just watch those side-effects!
