Songwriting: Practical Aspects of Songwriting Success
Learning to play a certain instrument is often daunting; learning to write songs and getting them actually published is often even harder.
While a great many popular songs often follow certain – rather predictable – patterns, there are none the less few guaranteed pathways to follow to songwriting success. Clearly, there is more to songwriting fame and glory than merely patching together popular lyrical elements and common musical motifs. The question then becomes, what "are" the keys to musical success? Well, as often as not, the key to success is simply success, itself.
There are, however, many resources available which seek to help the aspiring songwriter attain greater success than often would be attainable merely by winging it. Indeed, given the business aspects of the music industry, success attained even by throwing caution to the wind might well end up being tenuous success, at best. In other words, music companies are not always the kind and benevolent enterprises that some may wish them to be. When push comes to shove, they are motivated by profitability; often by profitability "alone." The sooner one learns this lesson, the better.
Of course, there are also a great many resources available that deal with the more immediate practical aspects of songwriting success: actually "writing" successful songs. Fortunately for the aspiring songwriter, the Internet offers musicians worldwide with the opportunity to interface with each other and to compare and contrast both successful and "unsuccessful" strategies. While there are certainly no sure-fire ways to musical success, the Internet-based resources are at the very least a good source of information for getting a positive head start in the right direction.
