Lumigan

Bimatoprost or popularly known as Lumigan is an eye drop used to combat high pressure within the eyeball. This drug is primarily prescribed in a condition where there is a gradual increase of pressure in the eye popularly known as open-angle glaucoma. Lumigan is the last hope used after other remedies have created problems or fail to yield result. It not only lowers the pressure but also promotes drainage of fluids piled up in the eye. If we delve into Lumigan’s history, we come to know that it has been known to cause numerous changes in the facade of the eyes. And the most prominent result is color change of the iris to brown and darkening of the eyelids. Furthermore, eyelashes too are on the receiving end as they are also affected by increasing in length, thickness, and number.

These changes occur gradually and may take months or years to notice. But they may be permanent particularly for patients who will be using Lumigan in only one eye. That’s why it is wise to use this eye drop under the supervision of an expert. People who wear contact lenses should take proper care and always make sure that they remove them before using Lumigan. Wait for 15 minutes before reinserting them, and if you’re already using more than one type of eye drop, space the drugs 5 minutes apart. In order to shun contamination and reduce the risk of developing an eye infection do not let the tip of the urn touch the eye, face, or fingers. Lumigan must be stored at room temperature in the original container for better results.

There are very few chances of developing side effects while using Lumigan and if there are any, then inform your doctor immediately. Resume its usage only if you feel it is safe for you. But still there are some common side effects, like eye irritation, itchy eyes, and visual disturbances, cataract, darkening of the skin surrounding the eye, feeling of a foreign body in the eye, swelling of the eyelids, dry eyes and many more.

Apart from these, few uncommon side effects are eye fatigue, change in the color of the iris, sensitivity to light and also eye discharge. According to the eye experts, Lumigan shouldn’t be used more than once a day and that one dose should be taken in the evening. You should be in constant touch with your doctor while using Lumigan, and if you feel any eye reactions, particularly inflamed eyelids check with your doctor.
