Seventh seed Jelena Dokic overcame her own nerves and a dogged Nathalie Dechy to move into the Wimbledon fourth round with a 7-5, 6-2 victory.
The 19-year-old Yugoslav came out onto Centre Court in determined mood and despite some problems with her serve, the sheer power of her strokes seemed too much for the 23-year-old French baseliner.
Dokic quickly moved into a 5-3 lead in the first set before suffering a recurrence of the nerves which had blighted her second round match.
A series of errors, combined with some lovely crosscourt winners from her opponent, saw the Yugoslav fail to convert a succession of set points and Dechy made the most of it to break back.
But relieved of the expectation of an easy victory, Dokic refound her game and converted her 10th set point two games later.
The match was now a much more one-sided affair and Dokic broke for a 3-1 lead before booking her fourth round tie against 11th seed Daniela Hantuchova with another break in the eighth game of a 26-minute set.
Meanwhile Chanda Rubin's grasscourt winning ways continued, when she breezed past 21st seed Tatiana Panova 6-4, 6-1 into the fourth round of Wimbledon.
The American won the Eastbourne International Championships on grass last week and continued where she left off.
Panova, conqueror of fellow Russian Anna Kournikova in the first round, was unable to get to grips with Rubin's slick grasscourt game on an overcast court three.
The American went into the match with a 5-0 record over Panova and, despite the pair exchanging breaks throughout a see-saw first set, never looked like losing.
Rubin, a loser in the first round here for the last three years, will meet either formidable second seed Serena Williams or Belgian qualifier Els Callens.
Third round results

7-Jelena Dokic (Yugoslavia) beat 25-Nathalie Dechy (France) 7-5, 6-2
Chanda Rubin (U.S.) beat 21-Tatiana Panova (Russia) 6-4, 6-1
