In Lithuania Our Team Came Together
Article represents the experience of one team, while exploring some beautiful rivers and lakes of one of the Baltic State - Lithuania
When I read about international trips, I want to get my suitcase packed right away. It’s because of a great experience I had last summer together with my core workers. For us it was a great decision to have a recreation in a beautiful country Lithuania in the east of Europe. All worries, city rush and business deals were left far away. Spending some time in a different environment, having a purposeful recreation, gave us unique impressions. Imagine birds’ songs, water chatter, morning dew, light of fire... Can anything be better for relaxing, for lowing stress and feeling than the power of nature?
To reach everything mentioned, we chose canoeing in Lithuanian lakes. This Baltic country is known for its’ landscape, dotted by beautiful lakes. So we rent plastic canoes and spent a week in definitely informal environment. Movement improved our health, beauty of the nature - refreshed souls. These holidays made me and my core workers closer friends. Some of us got a nick "mama", some – "nurse"
What needs to be mentioned about Lithuania, that lakes there are not private. You can stop wherever you want, make some picnic, have some wondering around and then continue your canoe trip. As a result, we spent our nights in tents on the shore of some lakes we were passing by. This way is really comfortable, interesting and funny. So we stopped for camping wherever it was beautiful and good for us. In most places we could have a fire, so we cooked on it. This way we made the food really different from the city one! And at the end of the day, we were sitting and watching the magic light of burning wood. Using this cozy atmosphere we were sharing feelings and stories from a day trip.
In the ethnographic region Aukštaitija there are plenty of lakes connected by small streams. And every lake, every stream is different. One lake is big, holding one or two islands. The other is small with beavers living in their clear water. It was a great experience, when me and my colleague left our camp and swam with the canoe to check the lake. On the other side of the lake, in reeds we saw a little beaver. It was peacefully swimming in the water. We started to follow it. Surprisingly, beaver was not afraid of our interruption! It started to play – running from us and coming back, and then hiding under the canoe. We felt as touching naked nature, everything was so close, so friendly…
Talking about nature and impressions, I‘d also like to tell something about islands of some lakes. Especially about one, that made the biggest impression for all our team. While wondering on the lake, rain attacked. As we were passing one island at that moment, we decided to stop there. Thick leafage of trees could help us as a huge umbrella. So we pulled canoes on the shore and entered to the island. Island was a small one, and there was something soft under our feet. But what we saw really shocked us – it was a very very old cemetery! Crumbled and subsided memorials marked places where people were buried. As was written on memorials, cemetery was several hundreds year old. Huge old trees stood as old and strong guards, watching new intruders. Some of us tried to make jokes, but it was not funny. Luckily, nothing bad happened and, as the rain stopped, we left somewhere far away
Also small streams are impressive here too. For example, you swim into it, hoping to reach the other lake safely. But unfortunately, here is huge tree in the water waiting for you! The only thing you can and have to do, is to carry your canoes. And do so, as long as it is empty again. Or the stream seems to be a very beautiful one and you decide to have a picnic on the shore of it. But watersides are so vertical, that to get on top of it, you have to climb with the help of hands…
It could be told much more about our exciting trip. Most of impressions are not descriptive; they will lie in our minds for a long time. That unspoiled beauty of nature, friendly animals and birds, berries and mushrooms in forests refreshed our overworked brains. Nothing can be better than an international trip for a good communication among core workers’ and a warm atmosphere at work.
