Andrea Thompson Struggles with CNN

Amid rumblings of Andrea Thompson's qualifications to serve on the news network and questions about her prior career, her handlers are becoming defensive.
When asked about one of his most followed students, renowned news trainer Herb Brubaker said defiantly that "Andrea's trying hard now and she ought to be given a chance." Brubaker, who has trained hundreds of news personalities over the years, does not feel that Thompson is being treated fairly be the media. After leaving "NYPD Blue" to pursue a career in television journalism, it didn't take Andrea long to catch on with CNN, and the network has confirmed that she will begin serving as an anchor for CNN Headline News in mid- to late summer.

Brubaker is among many who feel that Thompson is qualified to handle the position, although his voice is being muffled by the more intriguing detractors that have emerged. "Since I have worked with her and have known her," Brubaker said, "I'm a defender of her because she's a hard worker who is really trying to learn, and she spent the last year reporting and writing, and I think she wants to learn her craft." Kind words indeed, but some former employees of CNN and others in the media have raised other questions about her past and her ability to serve in the role of anchor.

Various Internet sites, including some that are operated by former employees of CNN, have been circulating nude photographs of Thompson, which she shot for a photography magazine called Black & White. "I think it stinks," says Brubaker, a veteran of NBC News. "If it's in the past, I think to dredge that up and put it on a web site of disgruntled CNN employees is unfair."
