Safin Takes Lopez Lashing

Tennis: Men: Marat Safin is having trouble on court one, where Feliciano Lopez is two sets to love up.
Russia's Marat Safin lost in straight sets to Feliciano Lopez, ranked 28 places below him in the world, on court one today.

Safin put out Mark Philippoussis without dropping a set in the last round, but the big-hitter was outdone by the young Spaniard.

The Russian insisted after being knocked out of Wimbledon in the first round last year that he "hated" playing on grass and would never appear again at the All England Club.

He was expected to progress here after his display against Philippoussis but was broken in the third game of the first set, lost the tie-break 7-4 in the second, and was again broken in the third.
