Aging- Biologic Entropy
We are like buildings, how this building is brought to collapse and its cracking features.
Living a full life is not achievable by so many people, and aging is the gohst that may prevent them realize their dreams.
Interest in discussing aging has been widely spread since the debate began to be based on scientific findings.
Entropy is by definition "a measure of randomness or disorder of a system", and this is what exactly happens in the vital molecules inthe body upon aging.
If we are to resist aging, the first thing we need is to know the type and mechanism of distortion in the concerned molecule(s) , so as to guard against the distorting effect.
If we can restore the normal form of a distorted molecule, then aging can be made a reversible process, the concept that is thought to be impossible by many people including those scientists that believe that aging is a programmed process, however I think that the progress molecular biology is proceeding now would make it possible to reverse aging a bit by bit.
FEATURES of AGING:There is a chronological age ( the age in years), and a biological age which can be expressed by the entropy occuring in different systems and leading to a disease in one or more systems. The more the number of diseases or its severity, the more is the likelhood of coming closer to the end.
There are biomarkers of aging that are frequently associated with an increased age, but not necessarily indicate a debilitated condition or an increase in the likelhood of mortality. For example when hair gets entropy it cracks and entrap air leading to graying, it resemles a symptom of aging, yet it doesn't increase the likelhood of mortality (I know some persons with graying at 30).
Candidates for being biomarkers include:
Cross-linking of collagen (skin wrinkles)-Insulin resistance (Diabetes)-Lung expiration capacity but,as yet, no biomarkers of aging have been validated and universally accepted, each individual can recognize his own.
Symptoms of Biological Aging include:
Loss of hearing capacity- Decline in the ability to taste salt and bitter ( sweet and sour are less affected)-Increased level of antibodies- Arthritis- Increased ( doubled) need for Insulin-Loss of teeth- Decreased receptors for Growth factors&hormones (and decreased secretion of these hormones as well)- More strong DNA strands binding-Weight decline due to loss of lean tissue, water, and bone- Increased body fat- Declined muscle strength for men- More frequent light and short sleep,..with a reduction in rapid eye movement(REM) sleep-25%decrease in fat saturation in the brain of old animal-Presbyopia(reduced ability to focus close-up objects)-Cataract- Disability(defined as the inability to use public transportation).
Over 75% of people over 85 have 3-9 pathological conditions.
Writing about causes of aging needs a distracted discussion which may need one or more articles. Stay tuned.
