Great Britain's Anne Keothavong surged into the second round, defeating Australian Nicole Pratt 6-3, 6-1.
France's Emilie Loit has become the first seeded player to be eliminated from this year's Wimbledon. The 28th seed was comprehensively beaten 6-1, 6-2 by Russia's Tatiana Panova
Veteran Martina Navratilova rolled back the years, ruthlessly demolishing Catalina Castona 6-0, 6-1 in just 46 minutes to move swiftly into the second round.
The 47-year old nine-times champion, playing in a Wimbledon singles match for the first time in 10 years, showed no mercy on court two against her Colombian opponent, 23 years her junior.
Following a short rain interruption, Castona avoided a whitewash by winning the 12th game, but Navratilova wrapped up an impressive victory in the next game.
