Will More Laws Make a Difference?

120,000 laws go on this nation's books every year. Do they really make a difference? Do those laws have the power to enforce morality?
Do Governments' laws truly enforce morality? A lofty intention but results are pitiful. Crushing facts reveal confusion and ignorance coupled with escalating moral decay. Crime steadily is more macabre in performance and frequency. Television, newspapers, and magazines daily report human failure to control good and evil. Even Hollywood produces vividly gory details in the guise of giving moviegoers 'what they want'. Neither do they apologize for glamorizing acts clearly labeled sin. Glamorize? No, they make it right, acceptable. Media/entertainment's bottom line is soaring sales, high ratings and box office net— greed, pure and simple.

How can we reverse this tidal wave of destruction circling our dying planet? Perhaps create additional, stricter laws administering deadlier penalties? An attorney's office receives monthly a 16" cubic box brimming with onion skin pages for addition to myriad law books in its onsite library. An average of 20,000 new, amended, and changed laws, statutes and ordinances are added to the books of our country's Federal, State, County and City legal systems each month their governing bodies are in session. Simple math sums up an incredible number of new laws passed every year. How many are deleted? Just scrutinize America's 52 States' Sunday blue laws still carrying two hundred-year-old extreme police power to find the answer is a resounding, NONE!

John Q. Citizen is serenely oblivious. Yet, one law cites him responsible for knowing and obeying ALL laws—"Ignorance of the law is no excuse." Lawyers cannot keep up and have resorted to specializing in single arenas (i.e. estates or family or criminal, etc). Even so, topical laws are overwhelming. It is undeniable that adding laws won't solve America's dilemma. After all, existing laws aren't working! When did this happen? What can be done?

The travesty began in Moses time with his people's demands contrary to God's desire. Our Creator set out ten very short, simple laws to ensure humanity would live in harmony. 'Ignorance of the law is no excuse' applies here, too. Alas, simplicity wasn't good enough. People commanded a human King with inline rulers to take care of them as well as enforce law in accordance with their comfort. Like God couldn't do both? Thus, Ordinances were composed— a long list of rules, sacrificial rites and offerings, special ceremonies and festivals ultimately impossible to obey. The temporary Ordinances were offensive to God, although He placed His authoritative seal (4th commandment) thereupon and expected complete obedience in return.

Why? What better way to prove beyond a shadow of doubt those human methods did not and still do not work. In the end, Israel transgressed Ordinances, Commandments and God's Holy Temple. They were not at all the shining example God had intended for heathen Gentiles, to whom one day He would offer salvation— once they were fully aware of the Lord's universal power and singularity working amidst Hebrews.

God's final solution? Jesus, who would and did eliminate those abhorrent Ordinances by hanging on a tree (Daniel 9:27). Christ demonstrated all ten of God's laws during His lifetime that we might see how to obey them (see the Gospels). In short, if providing His laws in writing were ineffective, then why not produce a living-breathing-bleeding-died-resurrected illustration. God's laws remain incredibly simple. Just follow Christ's perfect example. Stop murmuring, readers. If human perfection were not possible, Jesus would not have said, "Be ye perfect." He is not the author of lies.

Alas, even Jesus couldn't satisfy dusty arrogancy. The world prefers man's intervention. It's called worldly convenience— do what man deems acceptable and justify it by boldly declaring that God understands. Instead of God's flawless government today, Gentile and Jew alike live in accordance with mankind's weak, unfair, unjust, often cruel, thieving form of rule driven by insatiable hunger for unlimited power and exceeding wealth. At the same time, those capacious laws provoke idolatry, fornication, adultery, lies, theft, and murder in both secular and religious arenas.

Worse, we glorify those humans having composed and execute this nation's vast laws. We revere like gods government officials, movie stars, musicians, sports figures and anyone else randomly chosen. Think not? How often do we hear, "Oh, he's (she's) my idol!" The irony is that even criminals are included. Consider Bonnie and Clyde. How about Butch and Sundance Kid, not to mention a number of today's deified offenders? With enough money one can get away with murder, insofar as man is concerned.

We are a pompous ©"I Society" puffed up by peer praise. We are ignorant of true righteousness, forsaking the one true God— our Father Creator, the potter of our clay being. My, but isn't He patient! Six thousand years are about to expire and He has yet to shatter us inferior pots! He waits for us to understand what we've done to ourselves but there is an end to patience. Might not His simple solution be just as effective now?

Righteous people do NOT need manmade laws to enforce God's Ten Precepts, those Statutes of Life and Law of Liberty. Principled people live them. More importantly, they realize that no one can force integrity onto another. When an honorable person is offended in any manner, he or she responds in much the same way as did Jesus bleeding from the cross— "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." As a former counseling patient recently said, "Jesus exemplifies love to the extreme and so should we." Wise advice and so is, "Know your enemy. It isn't the person you're looking at. The enemy stands behind him or her— the Devil."

Man's laws are not based on or carried out in any form of recognizable love. They will never wholly enforce morality. It is impossible, except when applied to righteous people. Man's laws compare to placing deadbolts on doors and bars over windows, which keep out only the honest. In any case, human governments testify of Satan's machinations— another perfect example of what cannot, does not, nor ever will work.

This is not to say we should malign or in any way threaten earthly governments. God forbid. He placed those dignitaries for our benefit— to effectively teach by model what does not work. Only God absolutely enforces decency by writing His Ten Laws (Exodus c.20) upon the heart of those whom He has chosen to wholly follow Jesus. Don't believe for a moment that every professed Christian is following Christ, knowingly or unknowingly. Judas, too, represented a flawless example of verbal belief versus action. Jesus does not accept 'lip service'.

Christians demanding and/or supporting manmade moral laws are Christians in name only. If, in their personal lives, they also tend to deviate, whether in whole or part, from any singular Holy Law (i.e. tell a 'little white lie', or refuse to forgive that drunk driver or rapist or murderer, or discard any one of the Ten as being inapplicable, just to cite a few), again they exemplify a superficial Christian. In short, they love God conditionally, are lukewarm— riding the fence, as it were, with a foot in each camp. What these Christians offer Jesus is nothing more than lip service rendering them unworthy of His kingdom— out of Christ's mouth.

Apostle John was astonished with the Synagogue of Satan when shown it (see Revelation). It appeared to be Christ's church, though full of man's dogmas, festivals, ordinances and laws mocking God's Perfect Law of Love. Religious denomination of whatsoever bent is irrelevant as a whole, inasmuch as literally each one is populated with goats and sheep. Neither is any denomination 'the church'. We, the people, represent either Christ's church or the Synagogue of Satan solely by what we as individuals do. While reading this article, the "dividing asunder" is occurring— sheep are being sealed, for in God's kingdom only those "with one heart and one mind and one way" may enter. The goats will perish by fire. It is written.

More laws? God forbid that His children, His church, participate in such evil in whatsoever manner— be it little more than an agreeable nod. Additional laws and stricter punishments achieve greater horrors. Take an in-depth look at early Puritans to find this true. It-is-written! Only God's love for His creation and our love for Him as well as each other is the only solution.

There is no denying that in the end such pure love will cause persecution to rain down upon the righteous by those 'Christians' who think to do it for God— 'I know them not.' The few remaining sheep will hold fast God's true doctrine thereby fully armored unto a fleshy death, for when all is done they will be lifted up to Jesus and eternal life in a literal paradise. Pray that each of us endures the peril to be among Christ's sheep in one truth, one heart, one mind and one way with unquestionable adoration for our Savior.

Additional manmade laws will not achieve that which we all desire— peace, harmony and unconditional love. After all, Christ stated that there will not be peace upon this old earth. There is only one trail, the path of God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ— "Love to the extreme."
