Scottish Students successful in Workington

Scotland's Under 21 squad has won its first tour match of England before heading South to France.
After the U/19 Scottish Students lost two weeks ago, the U/21's have gone one step better and have defeated a professional U/21 Workington side in Derwent Park. The match, which is a warm up for the up coming France match, was convincingly won by the boys from up north winning 28-14 in the end.

Scotland got the early lead, scoring three tries to none, and leading 18-0 in the first 20 minutes of play. A lapse in concentration saw Workington quickly cross, however, couldn't make the conversion. Late in the first half, Edgar from Scotland broke through a number of tackles to score his own try but unfortunately, missed his conversion. In the 39th minute, Workington scored an easy try after poor Scotland defending and closed the score line to 22-10 after converting the try.

The second half displayed a tighter battle between the two sides with Workington scoring within the first couple of minutes, but again unable to make the conversion. Scotland had a number of opportunities to score further but handling errors and their need to still full master the skills of Rugby League prevented this.

A strong run by MacDonald of the Scotland students, saw them advance easily to the 40 metre line, and after a few set plays, Scotland soon crossed to have their try converted and go out 28-14 victors.

Overall, a great win for Scotland and for the game up north. Let's hope their matches continue to be a success, with all the Scotland students currently residing in Scotland.
