Lleyton Hewitt reminded everyone of his grass court credentials by claiming his first ATP Tour title in 17 months at the Stella Artois Championships today.
Lleyton Hewitt reminded everyone of his grass court credentials by claiming his first ATP Tour title in 17 months at the Stella Artois Championships today.
The former Wimbledon champion has dropped out of the world's top 10 following a series of injuries, but he was strong enough to see off American world No7 James Blake 6-4, 6-4 to claim his fourth Queen's Club title.
The Australian began the match strongly, immediately seizing the initiative when he broke Blake in the opening game of the match.
Blake had few chances to recover the deficit, with Hewitt dropping just one point in his opening three service games.
As the set wore on, Blake's powerful forehands began to give Hewitt some cause for concern, but the scampering Australian held on to take it 6-4.
The second set was no better for Blake and he lost his serve again in the seventh game when he hit a forehand long on break point to hand Hewitt the advantage at 4-3.
Blake refused to give in and went 0-30 up as Hewitt served for the match. But the favourite recovered his poise and a big service winner secured his first Queen's Club title since 2002.
