Britney Spears and NASCAR to Team for Movie
It has been announced that Britney Spears Productions and NASCAR will band together to produce a film centered on stock car racing.
Reportedly, Spears will portray the daughter of a race team’s owner who convinces a retired driver to return to the fast paced world of racing for one last big race. NASCAR said in their press release announcing the project that Miss Spears will not play a driver herself. The role seems to be simple enough, but we have to wonder about how filmmakers are going to work Britney’s new naughty image into the script.
Ann Carli of Britney Spears Productions stated, "Our goal is to create a film that honestly portrays the spirit of NASCAR." James V. Hart will write the yet-to-be-titled masterpiece. The film will feature real race footage, real drivers and real team owners. The film is still in its infancy, with no director on board, no filming date, and no projected release date, at this point. Spears’ tour is sure to be the first obstacle to overcome and filming probably couldn’t begin before the fall of 2002, at the earliest.
With her waning popularity it seems Miss Spears is grasping at anything to remain in the limelight. Reports of her drinking, smoking, carousing and her recent break-up with Justin Timberlake have knocked her down a notch from her long standing reign as the undisputed princess of pop. She made her film debut earlier this year in Crossroads, which wasn’t a huge box office hit, although critics seemed to relish her performance more than the movie. Maybe the NASCAR film will win an Oscar, and maybe it will simply crash and burn. Either way, the film will leave plenty of young fans "starting their engines."
