How and Why to Study the Bible

Reading God's Word from beginning to end is a good thing. But, is that how to study it?
While it is a very good thing to read the Holy Bible from beginning to end, this is not the same as studying Yeshua's perfect Word. In His own Words, Jehovah instructs us how to study the Bible, why we should, and even whom to trust as guides to understanding.

HOW: with prayer and by topic! Open my eyes, so I may learn the wonders of God's law. (Psalm 119:18) Precept law must be upon precept; line upon line; here a little, there a little. (Isa. 28:9-10) Search the scriptures; (John 5:39) Study to show yourself approved by rightly dividing the truth. (II Tim. 2:15)

WHY: so…we don't sin against Almighty God. (Psalm 119:11) Righteous people study for answers: (Prov. 15:28) Continue in God's Word in order to be Christ's disciples; and to know the truth and be set free. (John 8:31-32) Study to show self approved by God. (II Tim. 2:15) Study to understand doctrine, for reprimand, correction, for instruction in righteousness: so the person may be[come] perfect, completely strengthened to do all godly works like the Father is perfect. (II Tim. 3:16-17) And study to be quiet. (I Thess. 4:11) The word of God is powerful and He knows the true thoughts and intents of each person's heart. (Heb. 4:12)—Why? Jesus said, "Be perfect as the Lord is perfect. Be Holy as the Lord is Holy." {This is achieved by the How.}

TRUST: Christ, the Holy Ghost and any one who studies, searches, rightly divides and…They speak only God's Truths (II Sam. 23: 2), teach God's law and Christ's testimony: speaking only His words because there is light in them. (Isa. 8:20) Trust those spiritually mature. (Isa. 28:9) Trust anyone who obeys all and teaches all of God's commandments. (Matt. 5:19) Trust any one obedient in all things, for they know the doctrine, that it is God's. (John 7:17) Trust any of His witnesses of these things; and the Holy Ghost, whom God has given to all those who obey God. They always teach and preach Jesus Christ. (Acts 5:32,42) And they teach only God's doctrine, godly edifying by faith, (I Tim. 1:3,4) teaching the words of Christ from the Old and New Testaments, and the doctrine of God teaching godly behavior. (I Tim. 6:3)
