Cyber Sociologists: Understanding the Sociological Aspects of the Cybernetic Age

With the rapid computerization of society currently in full swing, there are a group of researchers who are studying the sociological aspects of the cybernetic age.
With contemporary computer technology, there are so many activities that we have already come to rely on the Internet for that several of them - even very recently developed ones - have become routine. We can shop online, download music, send e-mail, participate in chat rooms, play games and research just about any conceivable topic. The effects that these developments will have on society are as yet far from clear and this is why so many people have become enamored with the study of cyber sociology.

The study of cyber sociology seeks to look at how this rapid computerization of society affects individuals and societies. A young person in Indonesia, for example, now has a wealth of information available to him through the Internet and, as a result, almost certainly leads a very different life and develops a very different set of aspirations than he would have only a few years ago, when such information would have been essentially unattainable. How this technological phenomenon would impact both this single individual and also Indonesian society on the whole is an increasingly relevant topic and it is precisely these developments which cyber sociologists aim to gain a greater understanding of.

Not surprisingly, one place to seek out cyber sociology is on the Internet, itself. Here can be found the writings of cyber sociologists who have gathered their information on computerization and now make their findings available to all interested parties on the Internet. As stated, so many Internet-based tasks and hobbies have become routine parts of our daily lives so quickly that we almost fail to notice how much the World Wide Web has changed how we do so many things, although of course it has. And these issues have, quite understandably, drawn the interest of sociologists.
