The Periphery
This is a poem I wrote while analyzing the behaviors of people around me, especially at school.
To be or not to be,
That is the question.
To let yourself sway with the tide,
Or hold thyself in firm self-possession.
In this fake world, people say,
Appearances shall reap the best rewards.
But when adversity is brought into the fray,
Whosoever do you think will romp onwards?
Appearances shall falter, and become lies and deceit.
The previously raved about shall show their mettle in the face of true heat.
In times like these, doth I expect true change.
The hierarchy of power shall, in all fairness, rearrange.
The true at heart and noble at soul shall, in all their glory, emerge,
While the make-believes shall be shunted aside by the mere force of this sudden surge.
For such a day do I wait,
For a benevolent change in my downtrodden friends’ fate.
