Be It Love

Kind of an exaggerated version of something that once happened to a good friend...
Have you no perception of heartbreak?
Do you no longer ache to be a part of a greater something
Do you no longer weep into your pillow, when pain beyond understanding stirs your slumber?
Or are you still a victim of the love that once was?

Have the rips he tore into your heart healed
Do you still long for his warm arms
Still wish you could be held by him, rocked into silence
Love and let love
But not for us, not for the broken hearted.

Only for those who live in their fairytales,
Not for those whose are fractured
Beyond all sensible reason and hope of repair,
Not for those whose minds cling only to a shimmer of sanity that keeps them afloat, whose only want is the feel of another’s love.

Be it love, or something far more sinister, I know not.
I know only what I have seen, and yet that is enough
I have watched in silence as tears poured down your peachy cheeks, your arms limply by your sides.
Have seen desperation and hollowness in your damp eyes.

I sat with you, as every drop of liquid left in you was leaked in your helplessness.
I cradled you in my arms until they fluttered closed like butterflies.
People have said that love is nothing but a chemical reaction in the brain,
If that is so, it is a poison more deadly that the deadliest of acids.

I sat with you in endless nights,
Watched desperately as you cried your soul onto your sleeve.
True hate comes with true love.
For you loved him, and I hate him still.
He wasted your love and left your heart bleeding. It pained me to see your pain, and he was the cause. Were it not for his arrogance and self-importance your heart would not weep.

Be it love, or something far more sinister, I know not.
