IT support professionals need to be able to make a profit at the end of the day. Find the micro small business that don't balk at paying appropriate rates for IT support.
If you set your IT support rates too cheap, you're going to have to work like crazy. The last thing you want to discover at the end of the quarter, after you've entered everything in QuickBooks or Excel, is that you've provided IT support for free.
Be Sure To Make a Profit!
Don't find yourself saying, "Gee my revenue was really awfully close to my expenses!" You don’t want to work for free. Make sure there is a big difference between the revenue you take in and the expenses you pay out. At the end of it all, you need to be able to draw a profit and be able to cover all of your overhead.
There are going to be a number of micro small business that balk at paying acceptable IT support rates. There will also be some that are pretty comfortable with paying 75, 85, 95, $100 an hour or more.
Qualify Your Customers
Find your ideal IT support customers and qualify them so you don’t waste your time with the time vampires. These are the people that will suck you dry of all your energy and all your resourcefulness. They'll prevent you from moving on to the more profitable accounts.
