Director and definitive New Yorker Woody Allen can currently be seen in the US urging Americans to eat french fries, french kiss and travel to France.
Allen, whose movies are very popular in France, appears in a French tourism board promotion video made to entice more Americans to travel to France.
In the video, called Let's Fall in Love Again, Allen says it is time for his countrymen to put behind them the animosity over France's opposition to the US-led invasion of Iraq.
"Recently there has been a lot of controversy between the two countries, and I would hope that now the two countries could put all that behind them and start to build on what really has been a great, great friendship," he says.
French tourism authorities have cause for concern: American resentment of the French stand has been reflected in many ways, from boycotts of French wine and cheese to the move by at least one restaurant to rename french fries "freedom fries". More tellingly, the number of Americans travelling to France fell 15% in the first quarter of 2003 compared with the same period last year.
Allen said he doesn't want to refer to his french-fried potatoes as "freedom fries."
"And I don't have to 'freedom kiss' my wife when what I really want to do is French kiss her," he added.
