Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes Laid to Rest
TLC member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, who was killed in a car crash one week before, was laid to rest Thursday in Atlanta.
Lopes, the most controversial and volatile member of the successful trio, was killed in a car crash in Honduras. The accident occurred approximately 150 miles north of the Honduran capital, Tegucigalpa. It was believed that Lopes was driving at the time of the accident. She was the only fatality and the other six passengers were treated at a local hospital.
The funeral was held at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia. It was open to the public and according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution fans were lining up as early as 7 a.m. to attend the funeral at noon. As reported on Eonline.com, by the time the casket arrived at 11:15 a.m. an estimated 10,000 people had arrived. Whitney Houston, Bobby Brown, Usher, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Janet Jackson, Jermaine Dupri, Alicia Keys, Monica, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs and Marion "Suge" Knight were among those in attendance.
The remaining members of TLC, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas hope to continue making music together. According to their publicist, there is no intention of replacing Lopes. The upcoming TLC album will include a few unreleased tracks by Lopes. As reported on Eonline.com, the disc will be dedicated to Left Eye. Lopes leaves behind her adopted daughter, Snow.
