Nicole Richie: "I’m too thin."

Nicole Richie has finally admitted that she is too thin after countless rumors of an eating disorder.

Richie said in a recent Vanity Fair interview, "I know I’m too thin right now, so I wouldn’t want any young girl looking at me and saying, ‘That’s what I want to look like.’ I do know that they will, which is another reason I really need to do something about it. I’m not happy with the way I look right now." She denies an eating disorder and claims the weight loss stems partly from her break-up with fiancé Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein in December. She said, "I get really stressed out, and I do lose my appetite."

Reportedly, she and DJ Am are seeing each other again. Richie said she tried to deal with the problem on her own by eating high calorie foods, but eventually sought treatment. She said, "I started seeing a nutritionist and a doctor. I was scared that it could be something more serious." Richie is seeing Dr. Jeffery Wilkins, vice-chair of the department of psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Las Angeles. He says that doctors are "working on a systematic plan to get more calories in, and we’re going to watch and see if it succeeds."

Richie claims that she has no idea how much she weighs right now and that her eating habits are not healthy. She said of her eating habits, "I eat the worst foods – salty cheese-and-grease kind of stuff." She said she gets weighed weekly by her nutritionist, but she doesn’t ask how much she weighs." She said, "Numbers aren’t going to mean anything to me." She also blames her troubles with weight partly on her childhood, excessive partying, drug addiction, and the divorce of her adoptive parents. Richie said, "I want to be able to take whatever comes to me and not physically break down every time hard things come my way, because hard things are always going to come my way. I’m really trying to make it so I have the proper tools to deal with life."
