Tennis: Rain Fails to Slow Dominant Federer
World No1 Roger Federer continued his bid for a first ever French Open with an easy stroll over Alejandro Falla.
World No1 Roger Federer made light work of Colombia's Alejandro Falla in the second round of the French Open.
The Swiss top seed continued his bid for a first ever Roland Garros win by routing his lowly opponent 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 in just 85 minutes, despite two breaks for rain.
He will face either Belarus's Max Mirnyi or 32nd seed and Olympic gold medalist Nicolas Massu, of Chile, in the third round.
Although the day's play was limited by the downpour, sixth seed Nikolay Davydenko also progressed to the men's third round after opponent Flavio Saretta retired hurt. And elsewhere in round two, Czech 20th seed Tomas Berdych, and Spain's Carlos Moya saw off Italy's Filippo Volandri Russia's Mikhail Youzhny, respectively.
In the women's draw, Russia's Maria Sharapova looked to have overcome her recent injury worries in a 6-4, 6-1 second-round win over Czech Iveta Benesova.
Serbia's Jelena Jankovic, China's Na Li, Slovenia's Katarina Srebotnik, France's Aravane Rezai and Czech Nicole Vaidisova all join Sharapova in the last 32 after winning their ties.
